Funny iPhone Bug on WiFi SSID

A funny bug on iPhone found by a security researcher where a carefully crafted network name causes a bug in the networking stack of iOS and can completely disable an iPhone’s ability to connect to Wi-Fi.

On Twitter, Carl Schou showed that after joining a Wi-Fi network with a specific name (“%p%s%s%s%s%n”), all Wi-Fi functionality on the iPhone was disabled from that point on.

Once an iPhone or iPad joins the network with the name “%p%s%s%s%s%n”, the device fails to connect to Wi-Fi networks or use system networking features like AirDrop.

iPhone still sucks

There are 2 groups of iPhone users: those who love it so much and hate it. This is the post for those who hate it.

OK, we all know iPhone sucks, partly it is due to iTune (another crap). And the number 1 reason I say "iPhone sucks" is because it has no easy way for your iPhone to connect to a new laptop. It will wipe off everything on your phone if you try to do it. Having a new laptop or re-install your laptop nowadays in common. It may due to virus or loss of your laptop. (Don't tell me to use MacBook, your MacBook can be stolen or affected by virus too).

Today, I found a way to overcome this issue when you bang into a similar situation next time.

Here's the step:

  1. Authorize your new laptop with the same iTunes account.
  2. Plug in your iPhone to the new laptop, and select File > Transfer Purchases [ This cause iTunes to transfer apps from iPhone to new laptop]
  3. Sync your iPhone with iTunes by click the Apps tab, ticking the sync apps link, and applying.
  4. Now, right-click your device in the iTunes sidebar and select backup.
  5. Now, just apply any update like iOS 5 like you normally would by click the Update button.
All your apps and settings should remain in tact. Now should I say iPhone is not suck anymore?

No, iPhone still sucks because this method only transfer apps you've grabbed through the iTunes Store, which means, for example, the MP3s you'd synced to your device that you didn't buy from Apple probably gone (forever).

Full Access to Locked iPhone

Recently, there is a security flaw disclosed to allow full access to a locked iPhone (running firmware version 2.0.2). To exploit a locked (vulnerable) iPhone:
  • Enter the emergency call menu (of a locked iPhone).
  • Double tap the HOME button (to open the Favorites menu).
This will allow anyone in the favorite list to be called. From there, an attacker can access to SMS messages and potentially your email or Safari browser.

The workaround for this flaw while waiting for the next firmware update:
  • Simply enter the Settings menu on your iPhone
  • Then enter General > Home Button
  • Select “Home” or “iPod”.
Now when you double tap your home button, it will navigate to either your home screen. While this fix might be annoying for some, as of right now it seems like the only way to secure your locked iPhone.

iPhone Screen Capture

With the new 2.0 firmware, you can take a screen capture using an easy key combo. Just hold down the home button and press the power button briefly. If you hold it for several seconds, the phone will soft reset, but if you just press and release, you'll see the screen flash and an image will be stored in your photos folder.

This ought to come in handy if you're doing any programming, web-based or native, on the iPhone.

See it in action at Youtube.

Maximize iPhone Battery Life

Do you wanna have longer battery lifespan and battery life for your iPhone? The most important thing is to keep your iPhone out of the sun or a hot car (including the glove box). Heat will degrade your battery's performance the most.

"Battery life" means the time your iPhone will run before it must be recharged. "Battery lifespan" means the total amount of time your battery will last before it must be replaced.
iPhone Temperate Zone.
Your iPhone works best from 32° to 95° F. You should store it in environments of -4° to 113° F. That's 0° to 35° C and -20° to 45° C for the metrically inclined. Keeping your iPhone as near room temperature as possible (72° F or 22° C) is ideal.
The tips below apply to an iPhone running iPhone 2.0 or later software and may help extend your battery life.
  • Turn off 3G.
  • Minimize use of location services.
  • Fetch new data less frequently.
  • Turn off push mail and lower email accounts auto-check.
  • Minimize use of third-party applications.
  • Turn off Wi-Fi, Bluetooth.
  • Use Airplane Mode in low- or no-coverage areas (wouldn't be able to make/receive calls).
  • Dimming/Adjust the brightness.
  • Turn off EQ or equalizer setting to song playback.
  • Lock Your iPhone
  • Turn off Vibrate in Games.
  • Limit use of A-GPS tracking.
  • Use programs with 3D less often.

iPhone root Password Cracked

From Hackint0sh
We managed to obtain and crack the hashs of the user passwords for the iPhone OS. The password for root is “alpine”; The “mobile” user accounts password is “dottie”.

Is it sick to have root pasword to all iPhones worldwide? Well not really, there is no terminal yet to login.
